Anyone have experience with this 3rd brake light dealer

I've wanted an LED 3rd brake light but our inhouse LED vendor isn't offering brake lights. i saw that there's an LED 3rd brake light being offered on eBay SMART fortwo car LED third Brake Light Chrome Clear 05+:eBay Motors (item 350209488615 end time Jun-09-09 15:11:35 PDT)
by Gearjamminaccessories. The link is to the clear one with a "chrome" housing. (They have another in a smoked style.) It's not cheap at $89.95 plus shipping.
Does anyone has any experience with this product line and/or seller?

Oh, another question. Is having a clear lens and red LED's "street legal" or does the lens have to be red too?

The VA Administrative Code includes:

"NOTE: LED (light emitting diode) lights with a clear lens are acceptable if of an approved type. For those vehicles that are equipped with a multiple LED light (not filament burning bulbs), they will pass inspection if 50% of the diode lights are burning;...."

Dunno if this verbage is common to NJ. A buggaboo might be "...of an approved type."

Only thing confuses me, that the listing is for 2005-2009 smart fortwo.

Check your OWN State Laws......issues like this can and probably will vary from State to State.

If it's not legal, then there's no such thing as a street-legal Prius (among other cars)...

I did see the 2005-9 that Cube mentions. Anyone know if there was a design change in the light in that period?

Driving up to CT today, I saw a clear lens on the 3rd brake light of a Lexus SUV (with NY plates) so it's probably fine.

Thanks Panda and Old Smart, I did try the NJ - DMV site but couldn't find the applicable code for lens color. I'll try the local police when I get back to NJ.
