Anyone who has changed panels-QUESTION

Hello,

I changed my panels this week and when I was done, I found a black piece on the back of the rear panel. This is the panel with ventilation holes in it above the valence. The piece is on the back of the blue panels but did not come with the white panels. Do I need to transfer it? Have you transferred it? Is it only on metallic panels? How do you get those metal clamps off of the plastic clips?

Kane has never seen them. The Madwrapper people have never seen them. Is it something that was on the early builds that they discontinued? Do I need to worry about it, or just leave it on the old panel?

THanks,

Maureen

Are you sure its not the heat shield that goes beneath the rear bumper cover piece? It's there so the engine doesn't melt your body panels.

It might be a heat shield. If so, why did it not come on the new panel?

It is next to impossible to remove from the old panel.

Do you know how to get it off?

Just the plastic tabs from the rear body panel into the slots of the black metal piece. One side of mine popped off when I loosened the panel to get a bit more room when fussing with my new exhaust. I had to disassemble the whole back end to get the rear panel off to repair it. I would have left it but I hate rattles. I just rebent the inside of the clips a little and pushed them on with a screw driver handle. Be careful, the edges of the clips and the metal piece are sharp! I can now say I put blood and sweat into my smart.

Wow, yours are sure is looser than mine. The metal things are so tight we are afraid we will break the blue plastic tabs when we pull the black piece off. Then...I have to take the whole back of the car off again to attach it to the white piece. What color are your panels pghjake??

But of course. A yellow and black pure. Only factory option was air, just because my wife insisted. After market parts include Breathless CES stealth exhaust, Breathless front and rear euro bumpers in black, Breathless air scoop in CF, Area 51 cruise control, Pioneer AVIC F700BT, INMotion ECU reprogramming, full tint. Occasionally I'll throw on some moon or drag disc hub caps just for fun, but I like the fit and low weight of the stock wheel covers.

If I were interested in changing panels on the entire car to change the color how much would they cost? How much would dealer charge to install?

The Seattle smart dealer quoted $1500 for an installed full set. I believe the cost of the panels is around $850 or so.
