Nope; DRLs have to be programmed into the cars and they aren't for the USA cars. Long running issue, several threads on the subject.

Question: I have a new 09 convertible with the comfort package, the fog lights, and the rain light sensor. I was told by the dealer that if I didn't get the sensor I could have the DLR, but not both, she said that there is a cable that can be used for one, not both at the same time.
MY question is what if I moved to CANADA, what would the dealer do to make me legal? Also, I have heard that some people have put tape over part of the sensor and it keeps the lights on, or at least when it is cloudy enough to reduce the ambien light. Does it work, how do you do it> Peter peterbra@mac.com

I have an 08 with the Comfort package and I was also told that I could NOT have the DRL activated. A workaround is to have the Brabus double foglamps installed, giving an extra circuit to use with DRL. I have looked into a couple of aftermarket items, but do not have not tried the "tape method" yet.

not sure about DRL

I've read these posts and I'm a bit confused about Daylight Running Lights (in Canada or elsewhere). When I get in my Smart Car I turn on the headlights (day or night) with the same regularity that put on my seat belt and release the parking brake. I'm not sure why an extra circuit and a sensor is needed to perform this function.
I consider keeping my headlights on during both the day and night as a safety feature (it enables others to see me better). Am I missing something here? Is there a reason why using my headlights all the time during the day is not a good idea?
Chris

In a word, no. With our 08, that's what I did. Ordered the 09 with the DRLs and now the car turns the lights on as soon as the engine starts. Many, many discussions on the value of this feature; your decision to use the lights of course.

OK... now I am confused. I thought I could take my '09 Passion to the dealer here in San Antonio and have them program my car to have DRLs. Is there something I would need to do other than have the dealer hook me up to their computer? I had DRLs on my civic and didn't have to do anything other than turn the car on and put it in gear.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to move to Canada with your US car you would not need to install DRL's at all. In fact on most of my other cars I have disabled them I'm still trolling about looking for how to do that with the smart car I pick it up tomorrow

Just pull the bulbs. No current equals no draw on the electrical system. Win-win all around.
