Cargo pod

If you click on "community photo gallery" here you will see a smart with some sort of pod on its back. What is that?

(OK, I am new so I can't post links. )

The site is rack and roll dot com

It's exactly what your title suggests it is: an aftermarket extension to increase the cargo area of the smart. It only fits the 450 model, though (the previous generation smart, pre-2008 in the U.S.).

I believe that there is a new one specifically for the 451 and is at smartcaruniverse.com

Though it is possible that they changed their minds and started creating a 451-version of the Clever End, when I asked about 6 months ago, they stated that they had no intention of creating one - all they supported at the time was the 450. In checking the web site, they don't say anything what-so-ever about which smart it is for (which also hasn't changed in that time), so I wouldn't get my hopes up...

The engine compartment is a challenge in the stock smart. I'll bet this cargo pod would raise the level of difficulty. Quite a reach there.

I wish they would make it for the 451
