CC Stalks Question

I want to add a cruise control, but I have custom painted end caps. Can the 451 or MDC unit stalks accept the OEM cap?

The Area451 uses the OEM cap on the original OEM stalk. Dunno about the MDC.

Page 6 of the MDC installation instructions says you can remove the OEM cap and put it on the MDC stalk, just like the Area 451 unit. See smart car Cruise Control Module w/LED module - Cabrio model

Both can use the standard OEM caps. The MDC stalk is made by Delphi (who also makes the OEM stalk), where the Area451 replaces the collar on the existing stalk. Either way, you're probably good.

One thing to note, at least one person (who I think had a 451?) found that over time the OEM cap can split with regular pressure/use. I think he wound up buying a set of aluminum caps from one of the vendors on here and found they worked as well. That may have been a special case, (poor OEM end cap, or unusually high usage) but it's good to know there are options either way.

I was the one that ended up replacing my OEM cap with an aluminum one from Smart Madness when the OEM one cracked and split (after about 9 months of very frequent use on a daily basis.) The replacements from Smart Madness look great and, as other members have said, they're a great outfit and provide excellent service.
