Dash Recovering?

I have seen a few modded smarts with the dash recovered with leather or what appred to be bare plastic (no cloth or leather) Can any give me some more info or insturctions. I havent got my smart yet but its coming soon and i have the black leather interior so i would like to get it recovered or just bare depending on how it looks, But i wasent sure since the airbag and all.

My dealer told me if you replace the cloth with another material it won't effect the air bag as long as it is still a "thin" fabric. I think they completely rip off the cloth and lay down new material. I'm not sure though.

The Brabus xclusive models in Europe have leather (or is it vinyl) covered dashboards.

See here: FQ101 : Smart Car Modifications

Regardless, I want it

Recovering the dash is not too hard, I did it after I picked up my smart last year.

The bottom section is easier than the top but neither compare to the door panels or pillars! You're looking at about 6-7 hours labor (including removal and installation) for the dash plus materials cost. I used ultrasuede @ $18/yd.
