I just got an email answer to that very question from Mark Hovis, Service Mgr. at SmartCenter Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They'll activate the fog lamps for $50.

If you're in the NJ area, smart center Englewood will activate the fog lamps for you. I'm not sure what the regular cost would be, as mine was a unique situation, but if you call them they will be more than happy to help you out.

The switch and LED are both under the switch cap. The tabs need to be trimmed on the switch cap but there's no hole for the LED.

When I originally ordered my Smart, I don't recall seeing the fog lights as a separate option (part of a package I wasn't interested in) so I didn't add them. Later I asked the dealer (Bedford) about adding them and they advised me it would be something like $1000. Now that was the salesman, I didn't bother to ask in the service department, but next time I'm in, I'll ask again. If the part for the button bank is $130 and you're talking about $50 to activate and ? for the fogs themselves (plus labor) maybe they weren't wrong. Ouch.

The fog lights can be purchased brand new off e-bay for $90-100. The new grill inserts are $18 each.

All the hardware is there... they just have to enable the software... As JohnH said, you have to clip the tabs on the button to enable it to actually move. As for the LED's there are 2. An amber one at the top of the button acts as the normal backgound light... then there is a green one below that that activates when you push the button. If you're very careful you can use a large drill bit and just drill off the top layer of the black button and you will have a transparent lumination for both LED's... just don't drill too deep.. only about 1mm to get the black off.

I need to reopen this thread please, I just bought a 2009 passion last month and added the factory fogs. I did the mod on the button on the dash and I'm ready for activation. The "new" dealer here in Orlando at Mercedes Benz of Maitland can't activate the fogs. They are able to turn them on with the Star computer attached to the car but not activate them. They finally made a little headroom after me spending 5 hours at the dealer. They told me that when the ran my VIN the only option that came up was DRL. Does anyone know who else may be able to handle this for me?

Thanks,
Shawn
