Defective Doug Thorley Smart car exhaust Class action lawsuit
Doug Thorley Headers exhaust system for smart cars are defective. I have been dealing with
Nick Thompson at Doug Thorley Headers, Sales Manager - International/Domestic without success. The response was “I am sorry but we are not making anymore Smart products”

Try Smart Madness... they were the sole distributors IIRC... otherwise you are probably out of luck... just being honest.
Smart Madness is currently clearing out all Doug Thorley products. Being sold "as is" with the understanding that any warranty issues need to go directly to Doug Thorley. I know Boris is very adamant about a vendor backing up their products. Given the OP's post, I now understand why they are dropping them. These systems have been trouble since they were introduced.
What is wrong with them? I have had one for two years???
Bad materials and construction... on my first exhaust, the rivets on the muffler gave under the torque from the engine and snapped.... after waiting 6 months for DTH to replace it, the second only lasted 3 months before the tube between the cat and muffler gave out and broke off...
I'd check your exhaust... Other than Don out in CA, we haven't heard of too many that are still in one piece.
When the exhaust were first introduced and up until about 6-8 months ago we were only carrying the DTH Side Exhaust. The Centers were sold through another vendor which had an exclusive on the distributorship.
During the time we had the side exhausts we had only a handful of problems and DTH stood behind them so our customers were taken care of.
DTH later came to us with an offer to distribute their entire line and assured us that the centers have been redone and they were not having issues with them any longer. We requested that they modify the exhausts with a flex pipe and showed them how it can be done relatively easy. If they were to do that we would carry the line. They agreed and even made us a prototype. Based on this we took on the line and took delivery of the units. DTH promised us the retrofit flex pipes and as part of the agreement they would also provide us with retrofit flex pipes for any and all customers that had purchased their exhausts earlier at no charge to us and the customer.
Right after that their phones went silent. No calls or emails were being returned and the promised flex pipes never came. While most of the exhausts did not have an issue, about 20-25% of the people that had them had issues.
The promised support from DTH never came and no matter what we did we could not get calls returned or warranty issues addressed.
We have decided to simply clear out our existing inventory at a loss and no longer deal with DTH. If someone wants an inexpensive exhaust, has a way to install a flex pipe of simply reweld it when it breaks than this is an option. If not, go for the SOLO, REMUS, Borla or the new upcoming SILA Concepts exhaust. They have and continue to stand behind their products and the exhausts have been bulletproof.
There is really nothing new to this Doug Thorley story... People in the old days only bought Doug Thorley's for their V8's because they were CHEAP, not because they were any good...!!!...<:-((
yes i still have mine in excellent condotion but...
right now it i have the stock system on the car and the DT goes with the lucky owner of the turbo system because its modified to fit it.
anybody like to buy a DT and i'll throw in the turbo for $1995. youll also get a stock system and a hi-perf magnaflow system.
