Fog light indicator

So I upgraded and put in stock fog lights... everything works great... drilled the black part of the button so it illuminates at night and everything. But I like using them as DRL's... is there a way to setup and LED indicator to show when they're on? John H could we use something along the lines of the 451 setup you created?

Do you want the LED on the button bank to flip it's indication? On when the fog lamps are off, off when the fog lamps are on?

Or do you want an instrument cluster indicator instead? There *is* that rear foglamp indicator on the dash that's unused and could have another cute little LED put in back there. Or you could mod the indicators like the speedometer mods and make your own indicator above the cruise icon.

Feel free to PM me or add to the thread here.

WdHitch, tell me were I need to drill. I have the mod all installed but have to visit the dealer to get the TAN code activated before they'll work. It'd be nice to have the indicator show too. I thought perhaps the black area could be scraped off or something, or maybe a short 'light pipe' be glued into the button.
Thanks . . . DanO

You asked Wdhitch but I'll add my perspective.

If you want to see the LED behind the second switch on the left (as viewed from the front) you need a hole or a clean scraped or dremeled region. The image below shows where LED windows already exist for the heated seats (2 per switch, outside), lock (furthest inside), and alarm as well as where the fog light window is intended to be. The rubber membrane that holds the switch pads also surrounds each LED so you don't need (or want, really) a light pipe as much as a nice front surface to show the light.

Personally, I'd appreciate making the buttons available without having to replace the entire &#$% button bank assembly.

I have already "scrapped" off the black coating on the button... but that LED is continuous whether the lights are on or not. I wanted an indicator... maybe in the slot above the cruise light on the dash... where it would tell me if I had them on during the day.

I just barley drilled into the front of the button... just enough to cut out the black and still leave the opaque plastic.

The LED is continuous even after using the proper TAN code to enable the fog lamps? That doesn't sound right. Can we get a read from others who modified their existing button bank: does the LED light constantly?

If the LED doesn't change, finding the right wire to tap near the instrument cluster might be tough; I was hoping one of the button bank wires would be the obvious choice.

The spot above the cruise control icon in the cluster is blacked-out. You'd need to do a full new setup of your own indicator icons similar to the DIY speedo change OR use the icon between the headlight and highbeam indicators. The latter would be easier using another mini LED board for the new indicator.

I guess I won't be sending you something in tomorrow's mail.

Let's hear back from those who installed fog lamps!

John and WDHitch - thanks for the info~! I haven't had the TAN code flashed yet, but have modified the button (2nd from left) so it's available to use. I'm aware of the LED being there but don't understand how it can be ON all the time w/o actually turning on the fog lights. . .
I'll have to pull it and see if that's true before I flash the TAN code.
