Foglight chrome fell off...

Had car 24 hrs... went out to pick up something... fairly sure both chrome rings were on car before leaving... drove 25 miles round trip... parked car back at home... front right chrome was missing!

Couldn't find any rests of glue or any other attaching material.

Will stop at dealer tomorrow first thing. Fortunately it is 2 blocks away from the office.

Silicone Sealant for Chrome Rings

vwW12,

I almost had the same thing happen to me. My dealer recommended Silicone Sealant (the stuff in a tube in Black or Clear), and apply it to the back where the adhesive tape is.

I tried it on mine and haven't had a bit of trouble.

Hope you're able to find your missing ring.

Regards,

-Tom L.

Yes, this is what the salesman mentioned today. On Monday, they will re-install the rings and will apply silicone.

Question, however: are the foglights serviced from front or from back? Siliconing the rings in won't impede maintenance, right?

Fog Lights Serviced from Back

Nope, not at all... I also changed my original fog light bulbs for Nokya Hyper Yellow pro halogen (2500k) H11. Since the yellow light works the best for me when it comes to fog.
Carefully reach behind the fog light and find the wires... follow them to the back of the lamp and carefully grasp in your hand. Then turn either clockwise or counter-clockwise (you'll see the bulb turn). It takes a little practice (and small hands), but you should be able to do it.
Good Luck!

What happens if it falls off?! $400 we could almost gold plate the car!

That's the fear I had with the chrome package... Why I have decided against adding it...

Fog Rings separate from Chrome Package

The Chrome Package adhesive tape sticks very well. However, if you want to re-enforce it, use the Silicone as a back-up. Also, be aware the Chrome Package front grill replaces the factory grill and does not 'snap' over it (as I originally thought). You'll need to have some knowledge on how to remove the original grill.

The Fog Rings are separate from the Chrome Package.

Chrome

The Chrome package is really just plastic with chrome like plating and adhesive tape to hold it on? Geez, I really miss my 63 Vette, real chrome and heavy metal..

We picked up the car yesterday morning and drove it about 200 miles home and this moring I walked out into the garage and noticed the left foglight ring lying on the floor infront of the car. Reattached it with a bead of clear silicone. Then tried to remove the right foglight ring to preform the same fix but could not pry it off so I gave up, hope it doesn't fail too.

Me Too!

I had the same problem with one that fell off. I insisted that the dealer get me another set as I had followed their directions with the rings. The next set, I took a bench grinder and roughed up the chrome the back and used silicone sealer to install them. I have gone 12,000 miles since with no problems.
