FRONT hood mount bike rack?

Howdy all

I was driving in McLean, VA (NoVa) and saw briefly (on a smart going the other direction on the highway) a RED Cabrio with a "Bones" style bike rack mounted on the FRONT HOOD (access panel)? ? ? ?

Anyone on this forum?

Seems to me that panel would be way to flexible for this application?

I guess if it were mounted into the tow hook receivers it would work.

My understanding, although I have not seen it, is that there is a second pre- drilled and threaded tow receiver hole under the plastic bonnet. A2Jack

Actually, if this smart is towed behind an RV, that might be a good place to haul bikes and then when you need to drive the car, just pull the bikes off. The rack should not obstruct driving.

Found it again

Not really trying to revive a zombie thread, but I found it in a parking lot today.
"Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should?"
Does not appear that the smart is towed behind anything (no mounting points for towbar)
I still don't think this is a very good idea.

I would be afraid of the one big bump and there goes your bike and the front end of the smart.

Yep, and they have the real-estate to pull it off, without obstructing the view...

I can't see that it is a good idea to have something like that sitting in your line of vision...

not to mention if you have a rather large bike, your tires would probably be pretty close to the ground.

Anyone ever see the pic of the plywood on top of a car at Lowe's? The rack on that Smart is only supported by plastic bits.....
