Here's the best solution I've found that does not require drilling into the bumper. Threads right into the tow lug receptacle.

I like this. I've booked marked the site. No drilling and covers the "birthmark" on the front

Though GA doesn't require a front plate (Thank GOD), this is INDEED the best way I'VE seen to do it. I LIKES.

I've contacted these guys and the first thing they'd need is the specs on the tow hook (thread size, I think) So, if anyone can track that down post it here or send it to Alan at the gominigo site. Thanks.

Hello everyone. Just dropping in to say hi!

jwight is correct. Thread is the key and all these threads have been very custom so far. If it uses the MB thread, then we might be good to go. Unfortunately, we know MB uses two different sizes.

The length can be adjusted fairly quickly.

BTW- we also have a euro plate holder almost ready. I am taking pictures for the instructions today. Have to wash the car first!

ask any questions and will try and give a prompt answer.

you guys are in for some exciting times with this being a new model. Be prepared to be stared at, stopped to asked questions and get some VERY strange comments. MINI was the same way back in 2002.

Is Gominigo going to also make custom items for Smart?

I guess my title is the question I have on my mind. Their 'title' obviously states they are aiming for the BMW Mini Cooper, but since the Smart Fortwo is also a 'mini' type car, will they expand to carry products especially for the Smart?

Hopefully they will let us all know, instead of our having to 'adapt' parts made for the Mini Cooper. or other companies will jump in with their 'solutions' for the Smart.

Looks like they're being very pro-active ...

by coming on the site so quickly, had a similar issue with my Miata, although the factory at least bolted an assembly underneath that didn't need you to drill through the plastic bumper covers. I've been able to avoid getting a ticket on my '99 (owned since new) all of these years in IL as the plate holder will actually put dimples in from the backside of the screws holding the plate --- this happens when another car 'kisses' your bumper in parking lots. By positioning this bracket (the custom one shown on the MINI) even further away from the bumper as well as not being the furthest point forward it will help ... most cars lately do not integrate a front license holder well.

I look forward to seeing what these folks can come up with and hopefully my dealer will not drill mine ahead of time! The design of that one they did for MINI looks quite good and can be removed quickly if needed.

no worries. If/when we develop a product for the Smart, it will be made specifically for the Smart. It may share a component or two with other kits (economies of scale and all that) but usually, the towhook stud is very specific for each make. Luckily, there is a dealer in Seattle which will allow us to see the car in person which always helps.

Things like our third brake light pulsar was obviously designed to be as small as possible because of the lack of room in the MINI. I think this philosophy translates well to the Smart. I think you guys will be fighting for room with any mod you do. The individuals that come up with unique storage solutions will be the initial winners.

I just e-mailed Dave at www.gominigo.com regarding the license plate bracket and got the following response. Check out his site these look great. Maybe someone could drive thier new smart to him so he can make one for us. Lets also convince him thier is a viable demand for it

"At this time we do not make a 'NO HOLES' kit for the Smart Car. We are not sure of the response we would get from Smart owners, so we have not investigated a Smart.

If we can find one local we can test our current bolts to see if one fits.

Thank you for contacting GOMINIGO.

We've kinda covered this but the first thing he need is a tow hook or the thread specs for the tow hook. My understanding is the tow hook is under the carpet on the passenger's side. If someone who has a car now is willing to mail Dave their tow hook I'm sure he'd be willing to explore making a front plate holder for the smart. In the meantime, my front plate will be on the dash under the windshield, just like the one on our Mini.
