Remove hand brake cover

Depending upon whether you have the old or new style handle, you may or may not be able to remove it without destroying it in the process.

If you have a 2008 model it will be easy. Look under the handle and you will see a round cap. Pull out the little cover/cap. Unscrew the knob and slide off the handle.

If you do not have a cap under the handle and have a 2009 model (it could also be a late 2008) then the only way to get it off is with a dremel tool and then replacing it.

If you need help give us a buzz and we'll help you out a bit over the phone. I will be at the shop 10-4 (pacific) today. 562-961-6800.

..the 08 and 09 we have had the same set up...no locking screw...unscrew the push button...I used an adjustable wrench with the jaws covered in tape to prevent scoring/scratching the metal part...place over the metal part and use a small mallet (or a very large hammer .. J/K) to drive the plastic out of the shank.....

...I will not use anything that has teeth or serrated jaws like vise grip pliers...and adjustable/crescent wrench is more suitable for the job 'cause it will leave no marks..

tape the jaws or place some kind of protection over the round portion of the handle right behind the rubber piece ( a towel come to mind )..and mallet away forward with gentle force (oxymoron)...after a few blows it will be easier to move ..wd40 sprayed inside the handle will make it slide off too

jetfuel...hope this helps

Be sure you got out the plastic rivet. Here's a pic of what the one on my '08 looked like, that may help you visualize what you're doing.
