Just Added DRL to My Smart

Just added DRL to my smart Following the tutorial on this site. I purchase the Head like which can only be found in Europa and they are working just fine. Bright too. It took me about 3hr to do.

The hardest part is cutting the whole for the fog light plastic. But after that everything was very easy. This will give a a savings of $40 Dollars on my insurance (I live in NYC and WE HAVE THE HIGHEST PREMIUMS $1,400 to insure for 6 months)

Good DIY info; for about $50 (maybe more in the NYC area) you could have had your smart center activate the headlight DRLs for your car (unless you preferred the LEDs, of course.)

They said i cant because of the Rain Sensor, So that is when i started to look. I even asked him if he can disable to rain sensor and put the DRL but he said they could because that was not factory specs.

You can use the DRL kit two ways
Always On
have them turn off when Main headlights go on.

I picked the "always on" because i didn't want to splice into the main head light and then create a possible headache if anything goes wrong with my electrical/headlight not related to the DRL when it comes to warranty and the dealer.

But if anyone is interested and they have a rain sensor this is a little project you can take up which serves two purpose 1 Insurance discount and 2 people can see you lol, which is the whole point of DRLs.

I wish this forums where more picture friendly, So i can upload some.

Lucky you in NY People are not to trusting. Anytime you add something to a car you have to take your car for a photo shoot (a photo inspection site), Some times they take your word for it but depending on what is is they don't.
