Make your radio stay off when starting the car.

Other posts have discussed the fact that the radio comes on when the car is started, even if it is off when the car is shut down. Some people find it annoying.

Paypal me $50 and I can make it stop. Like magic.

Okay, just disconnect the battery. I'd try giving it a half hour.

I'm gutting my car for sound deadening (I'll post when it's done) and have had the battery out for several days. Last night I reinstalled the seats and battery. As soon as I reconnected the cables, I heard clicking behind the dash (maybe a relay re-energizing; my Mini does the same thing), and then the radio came on. I shut it off, and then back on without the key in the car. When I started the car, the radio did not come on. The station presets were still set, but the tone controls went to a default setting-bass and treble went to 0, and the loudness circuit went to the on position.

Hope it works for you.

Brian, don't have the radio manual in front of me but I believe this can be done via the radio itself, without disconnecting the battery. There's a thread on it somewhere.

Found it; as posted by mike-in-sa:

If you do not want the radio to come on when you start up- heres what you have to do... Turn the key off, the radio is now silent, now push the on-off button-the radio is playing. Now push the on-off button again, radio is now silent and will not come on when you start the car. If you do not play the radio the next time you start it, the radio will stay off. If you play the radio while you drive, then you must repeat the process.

Thanks. I don't log on much, and tend to not read a lot of the manual.

Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through each time! I'll stick with hitting the SRC button one time to move the radio to AUX each time!

I have had mine for almost a week with the radio 10 and it stays off when I turn it on. Are you saying your radio comes on every time you start your car? Maybe I am just dense, but I don't understand as I have no complaints like this.

me neither, also is this just with the factory radio or will aftermarkets also do this? I always keep mine on so I really don't know if it turns on by itself and if it does what's the big deal? one less thing for you to do....that's why they call it a smart.

JEEZ!!! Just turn the freakin' volume all the way down and forget about it! I mean, not like there are a lot of flashing lights on the thing to distract you while you drive....

If the radio was off when I turned the car off, it's off when I turn the car on. Never had a car radio that did anything different. The cool thing with this radio is I can turn the radio on without the key. But that still doesn't affect the state when I start the car. If the radio was on when I shut it off... it will still turn on, but ONLY if it was on previously when I turned the car off. If I don't want it blaring when I start the car, I just hit the power button before the amps power up and it never makes a sound.
Guess I don't understand what the problem is.
