1. you switch off radio 9.
2. you kill the ignition.
3. you switch on the ignition
4. radio 9 turns on automatically instead of staying off.
Step 4 is what most of us were trying to get rid of because of Step 1.
I have since upgraded to Radio 10 which doesn't have this problem.
I am unaware of the problem... I have radio 9. I turn it off and when I turn the car back on... it stays off...unless I hit the ON button.... then it magically comes on.... I am thinking it must be some quirk with some of the radio 9's cause it has never been a problem for me. Just turn it off.... and when I turn the car on... it stays off... ... if I say anymore... I believe I will be repeating myself Russ
Interesting to note that this is only a problem with the radio 9 which I have.
It's not a big pain, but really stupid for such a well designed car. As with any of the small problems posted in these forums, it would decrease our doubts to have a parent company that cared enough to acknowledged the problem with a statement.
Q - Why does my radio 9 turn on every time I start the car?
My radio 9 does what VinceLA is saying. Doesn't matter which position I have the radio in when the ignition is turned off, it comes up when the car is started.
My radio 9 also comes on every time I turn the engine on, no matter how I left the setting.
In addition, the claimed "fix" above (turning the radio on and off with the engine turned off) has not worked for me(fn) and I don't believe that it works for the majority of radio 9 owners with this problem, leaving the "AUX" solution as the only one that really works.
(fn) It works the first time you turn the car on after you've turned the radio off, but not subsequent times. So, if you remember to turn the radio on and off each and every time you turn the car off, I guess your problem is solved, but let's face it, that's not a realistic solution.
I have since replaced it with an AVIC-Z3, which needs to turn on to boot up, so it doesn't matter anymore, but here's the thing.
When you look at the key switch, there's the following positions:
OFF
I
II
(start)
Well, the installer told me that position 1 wasn't wired to the radio, in fact, there wasn't any wiring going there at all. Thats just weird. Why wouldn't there be wiring there for turning on the radio when the car wasn't running?
I don't know if that helps, but maybe that has something to do with why some radio 9's always come on when you turn the key on.
Ok, I used to have a radio 9 working correctly: last function (on or off) after removing starting the car. I disconnected tha readio for installing an amplifier, and now when I switch off the car and remove the key the radio stays on. It still remembers whether on or off when starting the car, but now it won't shut off automatically when turning off the car.
Any ideas? I guess it could be reprogramed via the OBD?
I've searched all sites and forums and haven't found a clue on re-programing the radio 9...
My radio worked correctly for about 2 weeks.
Now it will come on every time I start my car, even when i had turned it off before shutting off the ignition.
It is annoying, so now I have to put it to AUX. So basically, the AUX is the ON/OFF button now.
The dealer said they will contact me if/when they get the problem resolved.
I think I'll call them again, since it's been 3 months...
