Well, I bought some Krylon bright color chrome looking paint at Lowe's since they didnt have that color for plastics and had a plastic shampoo bottle. I lightly sanded one end and sprayed the entire side of the bottle to test it. Wife has zero faith in me. Hope I dont mess it up!

Does she REALLY care about her shampoo bottles that much? My wife keeps using up all my shampoo even though she has her own. Maybe I should paint them....I think you're onto something Jedi.

Good to see you are back buddy! If you screw up, there are plenty of people here who'll bail you out.....maybe.

Its good to be back and obsessed again!

I just thought the bottle would make a good test seeing as it is a weaker plastic than the tac pods and gauge trim.

I sanded half of it to see if the paint would cover the scratches.

:P

Well, about two hours after I painted the bottle, the paint is dry to the touch, but seems to want to slide or chip off on both the sanded and non sanded sides. Any suggestions?

BB, if I had the cash, it would be at your door Friday.

It might be because it is a shampoo bottle. The shampoo bottle isn't quite as porous as the plastic on the car.

Blue Chrome paint...am I guessing right? R2D2......

The main thing you need to do is prep the parts correctly...NO oils whatsoever! You'll get fisheye. Whatever you screwup can be fixed...in time.

No, chrome chrome. And its not Krylon for plastics. they didnt have that color at Lowes. I used alcohol on the bottle to clean it, and sanded one end. The non-sanded looks better...

...the flexing of the bottle is what is making the paint chip or slide...IMHO..

I havent flexed it yet. Its really humid here, so I wanted to make sure it was dry before really handling it. It said nothing about plastics on it. I ended up with rustoleum.

RustOleum.com

Have not painted the smart parts yet, but Im itching to.

Thanks man, Ive missed it here.

If you're using a paint that isn't specifically for plastics, you need to prep the plastic with something like Bulldog Adhesion Promoter.
