painting lower body panels

I want to paint the lower "orange peel" textured panels. I went to two body shops and were told that it can not be done. Anyone have steps for DIY prep?

I think it can and has been done. Maybe repeated applications of high-build primer and sanding in between.

Somewhere I had an article where someone had painted the Tupperware panels on a Chevrolet Avalanche. I can't find the article anymore but I do remember it involved a whole lot of sanding.

I WILL be painting in several months as my red will not be red anymore. This is upon confirming my yellow will still be yellow when it arrives in the next few months. The lower panels, front lower spoiler lip, gas door and rear lower bumper lip will be getting painted too.

Wow, your car looks VERY nice. Excellent job.

How much did the lower portions cost you to paint?

Also, where and how much did you pick up your wheels for? I think those wheels look stunning.

I could of sworn DIY stood for DO IT YOURSELF, correct me if I'm wrong.

(GoMXracing, your car was my inspiration for doing it though it was already in the back of my mind, seeing it actually done proves it belongs that way as long as you plan on staying that color. My color car will be going in a different direction.)

I had mine done for $300. I removed them and put them back on the hardest parts to remove ar the mirror covers. the shop used USC bumper &cladding coat adhesion primer. Then flex primer filler then sanded, and again if needed. I would have done it myself but I always make the paint run when I paint.( you have to use USC super clean 1000-A first) This stuff really works I've sprayed it on differant plastics it's almost impossible to chip off. (check out my gallery) I've had it painted for about 1500 miles and no chips yet.

I was told the same thing. From what I understand it had something to do with mold release that may cause the paint to peel and they didn't want to be responsible for it.

Thats what the super clean 1000-A is for. If you paint any thing on the front, it will eventually will get chipped off I've whited out every car I've owned and this stuff is by far the best I've used.
