Photos of installed armrest

I did purchase the $99.00 armrest kit from Armrest King in Canada. I received it in the mail within 2-3 days after ordering it. The armrest is fake leather \ black vinyl and is mounted on a plastic base, which attaches to the floor with 4 screws. Total time for isntallation 15 minutes, max. - To view the 4 photos go to the gallery and select the "interior" category.

i bought one of those also but found that i couldn't fully apply the parking brake because it would hit the top of the opening. can you fully apply your brake?

regards,

ken

Looks good.
1. I am curious how the fake leather looks with the black leather of the Smart interior in person? I can't really tell in the pictures too well.
2. I echo Ken's concern about the parking brake.
3. Does it interfere in any way with locking the seat belt?
4. Is it wide enough so both passenger and driver use the armrest at the same time?
I have been considering buying one of these. Hope you don't mind answering my questions.
Thanks a lot,
Rich

One of his photos shows the top of the armrest folded back; that should eliminate the handbrake problem.

I bought one too & am hesitant to install it. After test fitting it in the car it seems to hinder the clicking in of the seat belts. I dont see an issue with the e-brake at all. I might try to install with HD velcro before I drill any holes.
I would think this would be a factory item soon, but who knows. Just my 2 cents.

Seems like it may be in the way of the handbrake?

Bob, With the arm rest folded down, yes it's in the way. With the rest folder up, plenty of room.

That black doesn't look good next to the black leather seats. I saw one at the MDC website that says (in German) that they matched the black leather plus their unit has a small console inside with the armrest top flipping to the side and the whole thing folds up for the brake and seatbelts to work just fine. The catch, it is $175 USD after the Euro conversion .

so you have it installed? the problem i had was the opening for the parking brake (the cutout in the plastic base) would not allow full movement.

ken

I do not seem to have any problems with fully applying the parking brake. Perhaps, it is a matter of how far back you install the "console". I pushed it all the way back. Of course, this means, the more forward the seat is, the less "armrest" you have. I only tested it for the first time tonight because I had installed it earlier today. I found, with both hands on the steering wheel, that I was not really using the armrest at all. If nothing else, I now have additional storage. At $99, you get what you pay for. The fake vinyl leather seems to blend in.
