Rear Hatch Handle

Here is the handle I came up with for my Smart.

A bit too "frugal" for the really nice one I wanted, so I visted the local "Rockler" woodworking store and got an Extruded Aluminum Pull for glass doors.

http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...ded%20aluminum

60 seconds with a hacksaw and vise to trim to fit, and some 3M molding tape.

I hope it holds up, I am happy with the way it turned out.

That's really great. I paid some guy in China $35 bucks for a piece of plastic that I've had to re glue twice already. I'd like to find one in black. Beats the $55 Brabus model.

It looks like you trimmed off the part that wraps around the glass. Would you describe what fitting problems you had? The glass is slightly curved - was that the problem?

I've tried to fabricate something similar, but getting a long term adhesive attachment has been a challenge. I'm looking for an inexpensive handle that wraps around the glass.

Yes, I had to cut off the part that would have wrapped around the bottom of the window

Grip was too high, interfered with the rear wiper arm.

The glass is very slightly curved, the tape conformed to the curve without issues. Whether it holds or not is another question, it was still a little too cold here to call it a good test. I got a lot of tape though, I can stick it on again

My alternate idea is two handles, left and right offset from center outside the wiped area, and leave the wrap part on. Still may need some trimming, the hatch glass has the raised area on the inside.
