Seats are an integral part of the saftey system of any car. Tossing the 5 star side impact rating is somthing I would have to think about.

+1. In addition to the integrated torso-airbags.

Btw, niky, you not looking at recaro bucket seats are you? Those require a proper harness as well.

ive been looking at also putting in recaros and looking for brackets. Wedge needs the car for testing..which i cant provide, using it everyday. so im probably also gonna weld together brakets basing it off the factory design. The stock ones would be perfect bolt ons if the reclining mechanism wasnt part of the bracket. Running recaros also takes away alot from the safety factor losing airbags, so it is a tradeoff for a little more function....and from what im reading..i guess no one so far has come up with anything for brackets.

figured it out..disected my stock pure seats..all you need to do is convert your recaro bottom mount seats to side mounts and they can be bolted to the stock bracket and sliders with alittle custom work to your side brackets....dont forget to move over your seat belts to the new seat and plug it back into the wire harness.

To amplify what Karl said, the stock seats have a very large diameter tube frame that extends to the top of the seat -- effectively forming a roll bar. I was, in fact, so impressed with the seat that I've been considering Smart Car seats as a retrofit for my Mazda Miata. There's no way that I would trade those seats for something with less protection.

But, to each his/her own. Some car drivers think I'm nuts for riding a motorcycle and some Harley guys think I'm nuts for wearing a full face helmet, reflective vest, and jacket with armor/padding. It's all a risk/benefit thing that the individual needs to consider.

The Recaros are a high quality product they do not have the side impact air bags in them that are tailored to the application.

No offense, at all but those Recaro seats look horrible in my opinion. Why replace the seats with something that could possibly void the warranty, no side air bags, probably not engineered with safety in mind and don't even look good.

Don't mean to seem harsh at all but I don't see why bother with it.

To each his own.
