Remove hand brake cover

HI GUYS,

I'M NEW HERE. JUST FOUND THIS FORUM ACCIDENTLY.

I'm a proud owner of two 200 451's Smarts

One is a PULSE "Sport Edition" cdi in Black with Brabus wheels added

The other one is a PASSION cdi in White with Lorinser wheels.

Still modifying both cars and will be posting pictures soon.

Already have a question : does anybody now how to remove then hand brake lever cover in order to change it to a Lorinser hand brake cover ??

I know how to remove the knob an the end of the cover, but not the rest...

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Greeting from Belgium

eBrake cover removal

Here's a picture of what the stock cover looks like:

If you lift the brake up as high as you can, you can get the small plastic pin out with a small (eg jeweler's) screwdriver. Then pull out the other section, unscrew the knob on the end and then you can slide off the handle by pulling it forward. Then you'll have:

and you can put your new one on.
Hope that I understood what you were asking and that this helps. And welcome to the forums.

I've posted this before, but thus far to no avail. Mine doesn't have the grub screw. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else that's come across this.

There was a rolling change in the armrest. In late 2008 smart redesigned the handle. We found this out while changing over the stock handle for some of the aftermarket ones we offer.

You are correct! You do not have the screw to pull out.

What we do is take a regular Dremel tool and cut the plastic handle apart. Once it is cut (lengthwise) we take off the plastic handle and then unscrew the button. If you are replacing it with an after market handle like BRABUS, Lorinser and Carlsson handle you will need to put a small washer in place to prevent the spring from going inside the metal handle.

Take off the button, slide off the spring and place a washer over the metal cable. Make sure the washer is about the same diameter as the original metal handle. Then slide the spring back on, screw on the new handle button and slide the new handle in place and secure it.

That will work. Neither BRABUS or Lorinser are aware of the new change. We've learned this by our own experience. Once you know what to do it is a very simple mod, but it took a bit to figure out.

If you run into any problem give us a call in the afternoon and regardless of whether you bought the after market handle from us or not I will help to guide you through it over the phone. Our number is 562-961-6800.

Thank you!
Boris
