Jesus! how did you scratch the panel with fishing line?
It's just not possible, hence the reason I suggested it.
I suspect you used a different method.

You should have taken the panel off, taken it inside the house and taken time doing it.

I'm not into the debadged look myself, but having been on car forums where that is very popular I can tell you that the key tools are a hairdryer and dental floss (any time you want to soften adhesive a hair dryer is very very helpful). If a hairdryer is not handy the next best thing is to leave the car parked in the sun to make it nice and hot for awhile - once the glue is softened it usually comes off very easily with the floss and leaves no scratches.

Shooting in a little WD40 as you go along helps a lot as well.

I personally am going to be keeping the emblems on mine. I like the looks of the smart emblem, and what it supposedly stands for. I have 4 years of detailing experience under my belt and a very good set of Boar's hair brushes that work wonders around emblems for cleaning.

My dealer likes to stick their emblem on the car, and I am going to request that it not be done to mine... I have no problem with a license plate frame, but I don't want anything on my (admittedly molded in) beautiful white finish.

I can vouch for fishing line though. When I used to work at a Saturn dealer, we would have people order the high wing spoiler on the ION Redline coupes. The factory spoiler is held to the trunklid with adhesive pads and bolts - you can pop one off with fishing line in no time flat, try to pry it, and you bend the lid badly.

I posted a while back the Mercedes part number and also the part number for the little plastic sockets (6) for the two badges. Each badge has three little prongs on the back that go into a little plastic socket.

================================================== =====
Merc 203-758-00-58 Tri star emblem merc 1255 $10.00 (2) 20.00
Merc 201-997-22-81 Pin socket grom 1303B43 1.20ea (6) 8.20............ Total $28.20
The emblems have 3 pins on the back.
The plastic pin sockets hold well in the panel

The Smart emblem can be removed using a heat gun and a piece of wire, then clean area with "Goo-Gone".
