Roof Graphics

I know a guy in the DFW area who does 95% of the roof graphics for the MINIs locally and I am meeting up with him to put a roof decal on my passion (within a couple months). He uses 3M products for his designs and it's easy maintenance. I am meeting up with him within the next two weeks. He's going to measure all the specs on my car roof, body panel...etc so he can get an idea what he can do in designing decals and roof graphics for the smart. Nothing is set in stone yet but I am leaning towards 3" black and yellow checker design on the passion roof. The decal for the sunroof is perforated so it'll still allow sunlight to shine through the roof. It also add an extra screen when you're inside the car looking at the sunroof. So in a way it gives a tint effect on the roof.

I'll keep you guys posted on this. If there are enough interest I'll let him know.

The graphics on the tops of mini's look really good but I question if doing that to a Smart would have the same impact. Doesn't a mini have a much lower roof than a Smart and therefore the roof is more visible? I know that while sitting up in my SUV I can see the tops of mini's but I doubt I will see the top of a Smart.

I'm doing it so that in the summer there'll be less sunlight going into the car. It acts as a second sun screen. You probably won't be able to see it as well as on the MINI but it'll sure look good when taking a picture from a high view point.

I can assure you that attempting to tint the plastic roof will look good at first and then look really poor. Plastic expands and contracts a lot more than glass and they can't heat the tint film as they would on glass as it would melt the plastic.

I can only suggest a pair of sunglasses or the roof blind.

What can be done is what we call in the graphic business "window perf".
Its a self adhesive vinyl that has a white surface (for printing), perforated holes at a 50 or 30% ratio & black adhesive on the back. Many Burger joints use this on their glass windows, you can see out but cant see in (until your real close). It would work on the smarts roof, but would need a special overlaminate that would conform to the shape of the roof which is now available.

Its benefits would be to reduce the overall amount of light coming in by 50%. Leaving it white with no printed image would in theory reflect the suns heat, thus cooling the roof. Kinda like tint, but not.

My daughter asked if we can get a "It's Happy Bunny" huge sticker for the roof-one where he's sticking his tongue out.
