Running lights ( again )

Do we have anyone on board who would know how difficult it might be to modify the circuits to allow the turn signal lights to act as daytime running lights but also flash for signal and emergency? I think this the standard GM setup. The signal lights are very bright and the amber makes them quite visible-better than using headlights for same.

I can handle complex auto mechanics, but the electical work baffles me.

Not so far; this has been run into the ground and so far no luck. Plenty of DRL threads already on the forum.

DRL's - one solution to be considered

Would it be possible to add two small additional lamps that have nothing to do with the existing lighting on the vehicle near the bottom of the smart? If one has no fogs, then that space could even be utilized. These lights have no other function except to create a presence that a car can be seen by other drivers, so they don't have to be powerhouses. Wiring could be thru a simple relay activated by the ignition. Food for thought.

DRL and the Cabriolet Smart ForTwo :-((

I have a brand new 2008 Cabriolet and live in NY. When it rains, the wipers go on automatically - cool. At night the lights go on - cool. However, when the wipers go on, the lights do not, which is a legal requirement in NY and other states. Also I like the idea of DRL (daytime running lights) as my Saab has it and my wife's Acura has it as an option that I have on. AND there is a big insurance discount with DRL.

I am annoyed and disappointed that (not-so)SMART or their so called parent Mercedes (who I assume is ashamed to put their name on the car) hasn't made DRL and auto lights with wipers either an option or included as it is in Canada and places in Europe.

I'd like to hear others feeling about this. Thanks, Peter peterbra@mac.com or K2MMT@mac.com

I think there is something about the auto-on lights that precludes DRLs. The Canadians don't get the auto-ons; they get (required) DRLs instead.

And on Clubsmartcar there's a bunch of Canadians trying to figure out how to turn their DRLs off. Too funny.

Can't figure out why a Canadian would want to turn them off and take the likely chance of getting pinched. They are required by Canadian law.
