Smart at Stop Light

I was at a stop light on Azusa and the 10fwy. Soon another Smart pulled along side of me. It was a white Smart with a Black stripe in the middle. As the light turned green I pushed my Smart but the other Smart left me in the dust.
Am I driving in Auto or what did I do wrong?

You didn't have a racing stripe. They add 20HP.


Seriously though, the other one could have had some modifications to it. Cars with racing stripes often have other "additions." Or you had your AC on and the other one didn't. Maybe a different year; aren't there some 450s that have more takeoff power? Diesel?

In auto the car responds differently to how you push on the gas pedal.

I've found that a quick push to about 2/3rd of the way down will make the car rev faster and the gear shift will be at a higher RPM.

Manual also allows for better acceleration.

The West Covina Smart Center is at Azusa and the 10 FWY. I think you saw the Dealer's car with the DTH exhaust.
