Stubby black pull out Antenna - j series

I just got a stubby j series black antenna off ebay for $10 and I love it!

It is this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330208724923

On my normal trips around town it picks up my favorite stations just fine while completely retracted. If I drive much further, I just extend it and it seems to pick up almost as well as the stock antenna. I will probably be using an Ipod all the time anyway so may never extend it again.

Hard to see but here are pictures short (4 inch) and pulled out to full length (11 inches):

How do you remove the stock antenna? I've tried with no luck.

I turned it counter clockwise and it came off with very little effort. I wonder if the dealer used lock-tite or something on yours?

the manual recommends removing the antenna before going through an automated car wash, it removes quite easily.

I got the 'I' antenna (non-retractable stubby), and it failed to pick up NPR radio, so I had to retire it after just one day of use. Too bad! May try one of the longer retractable ones next.

ooo I like that!!
I only listen to terrestrial radio on the rare occasion that I forget to bring my portable XM with me anyway, so reception is not really an issue for me.

Chrisdfw, I got the same antenna as you. Looks great and there is no decrease in AM or FM reception.

I've been looking for one of those. I pulled my antenna off as I listen to my Sirius all the time.
