Toll Transponder location?

WHen you get a Toll road Transponder (EZ-Pass , I-Pass, etc) where have people placed them? I have enough trouble seeing around the mirror and would rather not add anything to obstruct my view. Has anyone tryed placing them under the front pannel rather than the windshield?

Take the rear view mirror off. You have two side mirrors which should make you legal. It lifts up off the bracket glued to the windshield. Best thing I ever did, almost hit a few cars before I removed it. It looks good under the front seat....

I would think the transponder would work under the hood as the hood is plastic but I don't have any experience with them.

In my Jeep, my transponder is in the upper left corner of the windshield, as high as I can get it. They recommend it in the lower corner but my inspection sticker is there and I didn't want to block any more view by placing it above the sticker. In the upper corner it is out of my view and has worked fine going thru the booths. Being a bit shorter in stature than most people, the items mounted high on the windshield (toll tag, rear view mirror, etc.) have not been much of a problem for me.
As far as mounting under the 'hood' in the front:
I believe the sensors in road at the booths have to 'see' a vehicle before registering the tag. If it is mounted to far forward on the vehicle where the scanner reads the tag before the front tires trigger the road sensor, it may not read. I could be wrong on this and possibly the Smart would not be an issue since it is so short anyway.
Maybe you can mount it up front temporarily as an expirement and go thru a manual lane to see if it reads, that way if it doesn't, you can pay at the booth and not worry about a ticket.
Good luck and let's be careful out there,
Pops and Car-lito (eventually)

Mine is just laying on the dash (not even far down, right by the speedo) and works perfectly. With a HUGE windshield and plastic roof there is nothing obstructing the signal.

Double Stick tape. In front of the pods if you have them on that plastic piece on the dash. Or if you want double stick tape onto the vents on either side of the car.

I did that for a while and wasnt using the toll roads as planned,I used the velcro that they came with the EZ pass and when I do go on a toll road I pull it off the back side of the passenger seat. The velcro works on that back side of the seat!

Wedged between/under the pods if you have them... Fits perfectly (upside down) and never a missed toll. I'm thinking of painting to match

Depending on the size of your transponder, it might fit nicely on the windshield adjacent to the mirror, but behind the black tinted section. Ours fits perfectly in that space, is invisible from the outside, and its signals pass through the factory tint material just fine.

Heh, interesting. I'm an EMT and have a blue emergency light under my rear view mirror, a scan gauge on the left hump on the drivers side, and was thinking of getting ezpass (finally) though I rarely go on toll roads simply for the convenience of not having to play 'guess the cash' booth on both the NJ Turnpike and Parkway.

If I can just leave it on a shelf rather than mounting it, it surely would save me some much needed visibility.

I have mine in the cubby hole to the left of the steering wheel. When I go thru a toll I pick it up, hold it up to the windshield and then drop it back in the cubby hole.
