Why won't my fog lights light?

I just purchased and installed the Smart accessory (OEM) fog lights. Everything plugged in correctly. I checked for a fuse in the fuse block, checked for power at the switch bank, and so on. Alas, the lights will not light up, the dash indicator does not come on, and the pilot light in the switch only lights up as long as I keep my finger in the switch. My dealer says the SAM (interior control computer must be programmed to allow it to "see" that I now have fog lights. Further he says Smart USA will not support retrofitting its own accessory lights!

I would have ordered them with the car, but I was not able to choose which car I took delivery of...: "Here it is/ Take it, or continue to wait."

Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

Several threads on this; bottom line appears to be your dealer is correct for the time being. smart seems to have no interest in supporting after delivery installation of the lights, or getting the DRL feature activated either. No very customer focused IMHO.

Unfortuntely, if they are installed after the car is built there is no way to activate them at this point.

I'd call smartUSA and find someone to discuss it with. I find it hard to comprehend the logic in a design that requires reprogramming the control computer if you want to add factory parts the car is already wired for.

I would avoid all the trouble and wire the switch to drive a control relay wired to the lights and a fused hot.

No one said it was logical, however it has been found to be the truth. Many, including myself are waiting in hopes that smart will release some sort of support to the dealers allowing them to take care of this properly.
As it stands right now, if you must have the fog lights and can't wait, you are going to have to add an external relay to power them as if the wiring does not pre-exist.

Call me insane but I'd quite like to use the switch that smart supplied and have the little light come up
