Someone in their tech department already got the spec's from me a week ago after I ordered the AVIC-D3, replacement and add-on speakers and such. I'll dig out the email on my home machine when I get home tonight of who I talked to there.
They apparently contacted me because I selected the smart, 2008 coupe when ordering the parts.
FYI for the group here, I will be publishing a list of the part numbers and ordering points for the single and double din adapters, the wire/antenna harness converters, and a list of the items I installed in my ride.
Replacing the door speakers is something most non-technical people will want to do because you have to remove both outer door panels, make some cuts in the weatherproofing and modify the mounting point with new drill holes as none of the name brand speakers line up.
As for compact powered subs, you can mount the 4 available under either seat or up in the passenger firewall area that is the size of a small child!
I can understand though that they might want the actual vehicle to doing their own measurements for liability purposes though. I won't be making that cross-country trip!
NOTE: ANY SINGLE OR DOUBLE DIN head units (radios/nav,etc.) will work in your smart with the use of a single or double din adapter. You do not need to have a wiring adapter if you know how to crimp and solder!

I explained how many of us have been spoiled from previous cars with similar products and desire that same feeling in the smart. I really expressed how we love our babies, we need these accessories and now.
For background, I pointed Blake to the U.S. smart car fan clubs: ClubsmartCar.com and SmartcarofAmerica.com along with the smartUSA.com site.
Blake said to let everyone know that if there is anyone in Charlottesville, VA who would be willing to allow Crutchfield the opportunity to spec their smart for possible accessories, they would be willing to throw in some form of free product installation(s). So smart people I ask you now, “IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHOSE WILLING TO LET CRUTCHFIELD CHECK OUT THEIR SMART?” If I were closer I would, but living in Jersey and working in NYC is a long enough commute.
Blake plans to let the powers-that-be know about our situation and he promised they will eventually get on board with some viable products. However, it would be faster if we helped them out too.
Blake can be reached at his direct line at 800-388-2911 x4138 or if you prefer, feel free to contact Crutchfield at 888-955-6000.
Please be advised that I was not bribed or offered anything from Crutchfield. I just want some quality aftermarket products for this cool car.
Thanks,
Regina
