Amp Location

By this time we have a lot of Smarts with subs in their passions!!! Can some of you give suggestiions as to where we are putting the amps? I purchased a smart madness under dash sub box but find myself in a dilema as to where the amp might go. I really thought I would put it under the passenger seat but the amp is just a little to big. I really wanted to maintain the interior as clean so I am at a loss. any suggestions as to where. I even looked for a 600 watt amp that would fit under the seat and still no luck. Thanks Skip

Look for Sundiego's thread on this.I had mine mounted under the passenger seat. The shop had to ziptie it to the seat frame and velcro the back edge to the carpet.I'll try to get a picture for you tomorrow.

Yup, it's a tight fit under the passenger seat, but it is possible. Using an xacto knife, cut some of the padding from the back of the carpet, and attach the amp with zip ties or velcro. My Alpine 4.150 is attached with velcro. Hacking the carpet under the seat is what made the difference for me.

As a rule, I'd suggest that the upper dimension for an amp that will fit is an Alpine 4.150. I 'spect googling "alpine 4.150 manual" will get you a .pdf that will show you those dimensions.

Good luck.

here is my amp set up...i had to cut and weld the seat bracket in order for it to fit....i also used velcro to hold it in...and it workd perfectly

and this is the sub its powering....the box goes down behind the seat for the correct air space.

just some food for thought....

why thank you! those are both old pics... the roof plastics have been sanded down and fiberglassed...they were completely smoothed and painted black to match the car.

It would be more wires but... you could put the amps in the tail gate!

I followed the DIY link a while back for my under dash. It did the job. It fit almost perfectly under seat.. Then again, mine was only 300 watt...
