Anyone know how to crack the door and stereo panels?
I would like to install a stereo and new speakers and was wondering if there is a site where I can see how the interior is fastened and where I may need to pop the panels at?
You will need to remove the exterior door handle, inner triangle trim, mirror, then the door skin. It took me less than 10 minutes per door. The speaker is attached to the door panel by four screws. If you are installing a direct replacement speaker just reattach the new speaker with the original screws. If you are installing a high quality speaker (big magnet= heavy speaker) you will need to drill out the melted tabs from the speaker grill and remove it. Now your new speaker will be installed from the inside of the vehicle. You will need extra support on the door panel for the speaker to attach. I made a speaker ring out of 3/4" mdf and siliconed it to the inside of the door panel.
once u get the outer skin off, the door panel is held in by clips. only one screw to remove behind the window controls. the triangle shaped panal that the window switches sit in will pop out. there is like a t20 or 25 torx screw behind that. after u get that screw out u can pop the inner door panal.
I did not enjoy putting in new speakers, but it had to be done.
Removing the skins was very easy. Replacing them had me stumped...yet I prevailed... for I refused to drive around in a skeletal configuration.
I added some Dynamat material on the inside of the skin which was another story. The material wanted to curl up and not stick, so additional glue was used followed by weights that where left on over night. Here's the rub... the skin with the Dynamat wasn't eager to be pressed inwards with my knee as the plain skin would have been. By pressing the skin inwards gave it an additional amount of stretch distance that aided when the skin was replaced. My wife helped by holding one end while I cursed and attempted to replace the other.
The first door was tough, the second was easier and if I would have done several then I would actually enjoy doing this. My hats off to the people that had no problems. BTW the speaker replacements added the missing high end needed... which in turn forced me to install my BOSS Bass 600 finally. Now I'm pleased...
I've got a roadster, and I found just taking the interior grilles off was enough..
I've also just fitted a new stereo.. the one I got, had a cracking great big loom of its own on the back with all the 312 speaker connections... and it was a tricky thing to actually fit in, as there isnat a lot of room to work with behind.
I should be getting my door speakers, amps and subwoofer this week, so if Hurricanes Hanna and Ike come, then I will be entertained with the install. Though I better charge my batteries.
