Audio fear in the rear?

So I would really like to add a nice subwoofer enclosure in the back right of the rear area but am worried about some of the consequences if I do.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Will it be dangerous for this woofer enclosure to be removable for engine access?

And more importantly, will there be any significant heat issue with this sub being just above the engine?

No heat issue back there whatsoever. Having a loose 50 lb sub-woofer back there might be an issue if you flip the car and find yourself wearing it on your head.

Why not place an active sub under your seats or in the passenger firewall area?

In this small a sound stage, there is really no need for a massive 10" or larger woofer... a modest 8" low profile unit will suffice neatly beneath either seat or in the rear deck lid.

I am going to add modest rear speakers in the rear deck lid to add depth to the sound stage and probably upgrade each of the factory speakers to better quality components and perhaps a mild amplifier to drive the coils.

Building a SPL test system, is way out of my desire... I need, prefer, clear "presence", realistic depth, and mild amplification to the subtle sounds like the cartridges hitting the floor in "The Matrix"

Loud is not always better... but the ability to hear the 105mm cannons in the 1812 overture, in real world impact, is nice to have...grin

BUT..... Beware! While I can appreciate quality amplified music... sharing your deep bass, and only your deep bass thump, with me, from three blocks away...... is bound to make me irrate... and I am legion!

Yeah... I am not much of a stereo guy but I thought an actual sub vs this stock thing would be nice... maybe I can get an upgrade in the stock location!

Infinity Basslink. 10" servo driven subwoofer and passive radiator powered by 200W RMS amp. It's very compact. I put one in my Mercedes SLK and as you can see it doesn't interfere with my hardtop convertable one bit. Unbelievable bass. Sounds like my old system when I had a bandpass box and 2 10" subs. I don't know how Infinity did it, but it's very impressive. I found mine on clearance for only $59.99 at Best Buy. You should check your local Best Buy and see if they can located a location that has it on clearance. It's normally $299!

It's perfect for the Smart because it come with mounting feet that you can mount to your engine cover and the sub will easily snap on and off when you need to access engine.
