Backup Camera Wiring Question

Is there any installation tips for connecting the reverse sensor wire or running the RCA plug for the reverse camera to a Kenwood?

I've read on some posts that splicing into the reverse wire behind the rear left lights is best, and I can see those wires, but are there any helpful tips for running the wires to/from the head unit? Do I have to take both seats out or can I just get away with taking the passenger seat out? Does anyone know if there is a link to instructions for removing the carpet to get to the wires?

I mounted my Kenwood backup camera near the drivers side of my license plate, jumpered the reverse wire to the drivers side reverse light and ran the wiring under the carpet to the front. I did remove the drivers seat as per instructions given on evilution.com. I connected power to one of the empty (switched on) fuse holders. No problems.

Thanks dichrodave for the helpful advice. I was thinking about trying to run the wires on the outside of the seat closest to the door, but you brought up and great point that I didn't think about, connecting to a fuse.

Do you have any links or instructions that you used to find the switched on fuse holders?

I'm getting mine soon. Wouldn't it be better to mount it on the passenger side (instead of the driver side) so you can see the curb while parallel parking?

I don't know about a link unless it is on evilution.co.uk The seats aren't too difficult to take out, HOWEVER...

Adam, be sure to disconnect the battery during the time you have the seat or seats out, or you will incur charge$ to reactivate the airbag system. Unnecessary expense. you will need to remove the shift lever knob to remove the console so you can remove carpet. I ended up cutting the carpet in an inconspicuous place behind the brake lever, hated doing it but could not get the shift knob off at that time due to lack of knowledge of how to remove the DaMP KNOB! I had to get the wet carpet out. There is an excellent video on you tube that shows how to remove the shift lever knob. The plastic lever itself is rotated a quarter turn counterclockwise and the knob lifts gently off (tape the lever so as not to mar it if gripping with pliers. Waterproof bandage tape works well and releases cleanly, {of course 3M}. I think I would want an additional way to see behind besides putting the car in reverse, as in adding a push button also. just Me.

The inexpensive camera I used in my last car easily showed the entire area behind the car, left or right, it didn't matter - you get a wideview look kind of like that from your right mirror - the objects-are-closer-than-they-appear look. Mine was on the left, behind the driver, but I too used it for seeing the curb, as I was always careful because of my wheels.
