Can you do us all a favor?

Ok, all you smartcar owners!

We need someone to take their car to Crutchfield headquarters so that they can measure it for audio equipment that will fit. Once they have that information they can post it on their website so the rest of us can use it. They are located at:

Crutchfield Corporation
1 Crutchfield Park
Charlottesville, VA 22911-9097

You can contact them at:

1-800-319-8264, 8am-midnight, Eastern Time
solutions@crutchfield.com

I remember I saw somewhere on this forum that they had contacted Crutchfield and they said that they were just waiting on a car to measure. If you do take your car in may be you will be able to talk them into doing a deal for. We need to take them a coupe and a convertible, because they are different. The sooner the better for us all.

I would do it but I don't have a car yet and I live rather far away.

I'm sorry but I don't have any personal contacts with them. I just know that someone said that they were just waiting on a car to work with. That would be great if you could do that for us.

Ok, will someone pleaseeeee take their car to Crutchfield so that they can get measurements for various audio and video options. I keep checking their recommendation and they still don't have any because they haven't measured a car. Thanks!

SPDYII - Just from general observation, I would venture that anything will fit into the dash of a smart, right up to my grandmothers old Phillips TV. The area behind the dash accepted my Kenwood DNX 7120 NAV with room to spare!! Of course, having the option on the Crutchfield web page for "This will fit your smart car" would be nice!! I would think that if they really wanted to sell audio upgrades to the smart, they would find one and do it themselves!!

Yes (agreed but), like you said it would be nice to have "This will fit your smart car".

I think the real point is... with the exception of the few OEM radios, and some "din and a half" (1.5 din) that Crutchfield sells, all of the Head units normal 1x din and 2x din will fit and we already know that at least one of the offered adapter plates is a near factory perfect color and fit.

We also have the knowledge here on SCOA about what speakers are direct fit and which ones require some creative adaptaion

I am some what amazed that Crutchfeild is NOT activly looking for a car to measure

But hey... I only use them to look up or compare specifications... I almost never buy there as their prices are well above what other "authorised" sellers ask

I'm in their area frequently, and offered mine up to them. No strings.

Didn't get a response out of them. Guess they don't see a need.

I've freqeuntly discovered the "information" from Crutchfield to simply be wrong. Speakers and head units that they have indicated would not fit without modification have dropped right in. Every time I use their "what fits my car" stuff, it filters out a lot of things that fit just fine. Or they assume that there is only one place for speakers, never considering that someone might choose to mount additional speakers elsewhere.

As people have said, just about any DIN to Double-DIN head unit will work fine. Polk DB-651 speakers work great. So do some Alpines. Everything you need can be found here.
