Coaxial speakers in the DASH?

Hey errybody.

So, I've got the stock radio 10, a line output converter going to an alpine 2 ch amp, that drives a JL w3 8inch woofer in the 4smartcar.com under dash box, alpine sps600 coaxial 6.5's in the doors (running off the factory radio 10), and the factory premium sound system's tweeters still lingering in the dashboard.

I'm debating switching these factory tweeters out with an aftermarket, leaving them connected to the factory head unit. But I'm also considering going to a full range, small coaxial in the dash instead of just a set of tweeters. We all know, thanks to hard work of others, that the tweeter speaker lines contain full range audio (no crossovers in headunit), so why not try a small (4" or 3.5") coax in the dash?!

anyone try this? thoughts? comments? advice?

thanks!!!

Well you could do that if you want. the hard part is mounting the speakers where the tweets are. its a fun time to get the tweets out. even if u did put like a 3/1/2 or 4 inch speaker in there i would put some sort of bass blocker on the speaker. that small of a speaker is not made for low freq. they will last longer and save you a headache of replacing the pair if you blow them.

Anyone know how to get the tweets out of the dash to mount new ones? Looked everywhere and can't find nothing on this.

It's real simple to get under there and pluck out the tweeters. I'm surprised it wasnt' a 5 minute job for you. This should give you pointers to get past whatever was in your way.

yeah... they're just kinda cliped in with a small plastic tab or something, which if i remember correctly holds it in place from the bottom of the tweeter. The passenger side is cake to get at. Driver's side, however, is a whole different matter. nice that the dash doesn't have to be removed to get to them.
