Cost of new sound system installation

This is what I was quoted from a big local retailer (Ultimate Electronics) in my area for the following work. Let me know if you think it's a reasonable.

1. Pioneer double din receiver (model FHT 8000BT)
2. 6 1/2 Infinity Kappa w/Components replacing the stock front
3. 4/12 Infinity Reference (for the rear)-custom cut
4. XM receiver

$339 + tx (this ALL Labor only). I bought all the gear

that doesn't seem like very much $ seeing as the head unit goes for ~$225 alone.

$339 is just labor, he already bought all the stuff.
Installing Pioneer headunit is 15 minute job even if you not very good with tools. You can find a lot of info here on this site (btw, I have same Pioneer installed in my smart).
Speakers is different story.
Ask them, how much would be to install just speakers? You could save $60 - $100 by installing headunit yourself.
XM reciever is just a small box attached to the IP Bus in the back of the Pioneer headunit. All you need is plug it in and route XM antenna cable to put it on your dash.

P.S. Ask them if they work on the smart before? I would not trust some kid to remove panels and drill holes in my car. So much stuff can be broken very easily.

Good luck.

I got my idea from your post actually. I've never installed the deck before. I do have the mounting bracket that I also saw on the posts. I also have the wiring harness.

If someone has pictures of step by step, I would give it a shot. Otherwise, I would give it to the pros and let them take care of it.

Very easy so just do it yourself. Trust me if you are not color blind then you can match all the wires and get it installed. If you bought the stuff from 4SmartCar I can assure you it is very easy to do.

Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia will tell you how to remove the radio.

Good luck
