And in California is illegal to put anything on the windshield, including those oil change reminder stickers. Good solution!

I have the first mount that is listed on that link - for the Garmin models.

It works really well in keeping the GPS from moving. I am a bit concerned about it though, because the rubber material on the bottom effectively removed the dressing that I had on the dashboard on my VUE, and it did a similar thing to my mom's car when I used it at home. I am thinking that I am going to keep it around for quick drives, and pick up another mount set for the smart when I get it - I already have an extra set of wiring and such for it.

After seeing the excellent in-dash installation, I decided to go out to Crutchfield's website and see if by any chance they had other in-dash units that would fit the Smart.

Much to my amazement, their 'search' program actually had the 2008 Smart Fortwo listed as a model you can search for. They are the first company I've encountered, that actually had the 2008 Smarts in their 'data'. I was expecting the Tire Rack to have it, but they didn't, even though I contacted them months before now. Crutchfield earned a 'star' from me, for being forward thinking....

Here is my solution to adding a gps nav system to the 451 smart:

http://smartcarofamerica.com/forums/...ad.php?p=17174

I'll might be traveling up to New York in Feb for something and was thinking of driving up, will post once I can confirm things, but if you are between Maine and New York City I've love to meet up share some ideas and right now Boston looks like my stop to get parts installed but I might change to New York.

Smartster, if you plan a trip through NY, please let me know. I would love to meet up and hopefully by that time, I'll have my smartie. BTW, please explain if the forfiveone has a CD player now that you have installed this in-dash GPS system. I checked out Crutchfields and found your same Panasonic unit for less than $700 which seemed like a good price. I'm very interested but I need to know how I can play CDs and I would love to know if you are going to install XM radio. Ultimately, I want an in-dash GPS with bluetooth, satellite radio capabilities and will allow me to play CDs. Thanks, Regina

rrrucke - Wow on your avatar! I'm hoping for my car this month as you are and I hope to drive east to visit a friend in NYC so I'll definitely look you up if I get there. I don't know if i'll drive my Smart or not, have to see how it does on the highway.

Wow, only a G note plus installation! At least you can still have the super deluxe guage package.

I* am seriously considering the semi permanent TomTom solution...like Smartster did..............now if the price on the 920T would just get down out of the stratosphere

*disclaimer... my wife insists that our "family" get a Tom Tom because here girlfriend got an new car and has a TT 720... they go all over Texas now with out having me give them directions out of my extensive map collection... (I am sort of a map nut).

*I have never been lost in 35 years of driving...not once....ever.... I always know exactly where I am at....always.....really

*Just because I can not find the way to where I need to be, does NOT mean that I do not know where I am.....

*In fact--- No matter where I go...There I am. ;)
