I just installed a pair of Infinity 6020cs. I appreciate all of the walk thru's posted around the web, on this forum, and beyond. After installing both woofers and wiring the crossover, I found out that one of the tweeters was shot. The guy on ebay I purchased from will give me a new one, but I emailed Infinity to purchase a spare and they don't stock spares or have the ability to repair drivers.
I've worked in the home hifi business since 2000, and have actually sold Infinity's higher end products. They have always had spare parts or could repair drivers. Is this the norm for car audio? In the home audio business, it is customary to stock parts for five years beyond the discontinuation of a product.
i never had a prob with there car audio. i also never buy off ebay for that reason. might be cheaper but the hassles you go thru if something is wrong is not worth it. plus if they are not an authorized dealer u get NO warranty from the manufacture.

Maybe I didn't write my first post well enough. Infinity doesn't have any spare parts for their 6020cs, not for consumers or authorized retailers. It didn't matter who I bought the speakers from, I can only hope for a return or replacement by the retailer. The ebay seller is replacing my tweeter, but if a retailer runs out of stock of complete sets, where will they get replacement parts? Infinity sent me an email stating that they never stocked spare tweeters for the 6020cs. What good is a warranty if the manufacturer doesn't have the spare parts to repair or replace the product?

Infinity will only sell replacement parts for car audio to their authorized repair stations. They told you what you heard to get rid of you (which wasn't very nice), and may have done so if you told them you bought the speakers on ebay. They are very much against supporting product purchased outside of their dealer network.
I bought an Infinity amp from Crutchfield (authorized dealer) a few years ago, and it required out-of-warranty service. I had to send it to Los Angeles to their authorized independent service station. First I took it to a local high end audio dealer (stuff like McIntosh home/car, MBL, Krell, Audison car) and Infinity wouldn't sell them a schematic or parts.

Infinity has a website for purchasing parts. I ordered parts for a 7 year old Infinty Home speaker 2 weeks ago for a client. The website has the 6020 speakers listed, just no parts available, but requested that I email them. So why sell replacement parts for home products that are only sold through authorized dealers but not with this product? Unless this is unique to the 12 volt business, it is counterintuitive to the way home audio manufacturers operate. I spent my first years in the audio business as a service manager, repairing products and ordering parts. All in all Infinity is selling products it has no intention of repairing. Once stock runs out of complete sets, consumers will be out of luck.
I did some research and found that they actually sell the tweeters in retail packaging as model # REF 1021T. Why the parts rep didn't know this, I have no clue, but as it stands, once this model is discontinued, owners will be Sh** out of luck.
Your reasoning is pretty poor.
If something is sold defective, it is up to the manufacturer to replace the entire unit if it cannot be fixed. Same can be said if it dies under warranty.
Home speakers have removable cones etc, car audio rarely does so this is no surprise.
Why you want to buy a replacement for something you should be getting for nothing is beyond me.
Considering the price of 6020cs set I don't think you can complain considering the warranty period and quality of the sound. I would still buy them if they died the day the warranty expired, I would just go and buy the updated model.
If you are that bothered, buy 2 kits and that way you have spares.

Home products like speakers have cones and tweeters that are not user replaceable, yet virtually all manufacturers stock the parts. Car audio component systems inherently are made of replaceable parts, its in the word COMPONENT. So why would Infinity not stock the user replaceable parts, if they do stock and sell non-user replaceable parts for their home systems? My part is being replaced by the retailer as I have posted 3 times. I just want a spare, when my warranty is over.
My beef is that once my warranty is up, my speakers are no longer repairable or possibly replaceable. You are fine with that, but I assume most are not, or in this case without a choice to be otherwise. Who on here says that the Infinity's are so much better than Polks, Mb Quart, Pioneer, etc who all make systems of similar price and more than likely willing to stock and sell replacement components, if need be. Beyond, my own personal story, the point is BUYER BEWARE!!!
