Guys, if you check on the lable on the side of the stereo you can see if it plays MP3s and WMA files from a CD, also the metal chassis is different.
The lowest model number that plays MP3s is the VP7CRF-18C815-AF and started being produced in Jan 2008. As the design was revised it was the last letter that increased to denote the next version.

NCC, what unit do you have, and how quickly will it begin playing data from a USB thumb drive. Honestly, I could take like 10 or so 8GB thumb drives and load them up with specific genres of music and be set, but I've experienced a head unit take 15 minutes to load the data from 8gb worth of music before it would begin playing from it.
