Harness and dash kit

Hi all,

I have looked around on this forum and also on a UK forum, and I have yet to get an answer that is clear. I have 2 questions:

1. Where do you recommend getting a dash-matching single-din with pocket dash kit? Preferably not in the UK.. the dollars-to-pounds thing is a drag.

2. Do you need an aftermarket harness or not? If you don't need one, are the pin-outs self-explanatory? If you do, which one is it? Mercedes? VW?

I usually look on Crutchfield for this info but the car is so new that they don't have any info on it on their site.

Thanks much.

I made my own dash kit, far from perfect but it looks good and cost me nothing...

The adapter is the Metrakit for VW, 85+ I think. Also pick up the antenna adapter while you're at it.

I got my double din from smartieparts .com . Looks like they sell a single with storage also. Site won't let me link.

I also got my antenna converter and harness from a place I can't find till I get home.

That's it? smartieparts.com? That single DIN kit is $50! Anywhere here in the US that sells the kit?

I just went to ebay.uk site. I bought mine off of the ebay site. and it fits perfect. I paid 50 US and that included shipping. I already removed the radio and tested it out. I have an identical setup in my audi. I am installing a new radio sometime in the next couple of weeks. It is going to be a Kenwood P-nav512. Its a kvt-512 and a KNA-G510 unit. I'll post a sweet walk through of installing it.

smart center portland has dash kits in stock 49.99 plush shipping. ask for darin and mention SCOA pricing. they are single din with extra pocket, they can be used for double din as well just have to cut the bar out (thats what scp does when installing nav systems)

you need a metra kit for the wiring (VW 85 on and then repin it as posted in another thread here) and also need an antenna adapter. you can get them there if needed but might be cheaper from you local car stereo shop

i have installed 10 plus nav units with kit. it takes longer to wire every thing up then actually putting the stereo in the car.
