that would be awesome to have a computer in your vehicle esp if your always on a go and you need it for your job. but I agree with the rest of the members, I think its just not necessary in this point in time.
Since I've installed a nice indash Nav unit, I'm not really looking for PC options any more ... and the space is taken by the Nav unit anyway. However, the oft repeated statement in this thread that "it's just not necessary" doesn't connect with me. I mean, my auto headlights and wipers aren't necessary. The TPMS, electric steering, A/C and heat ... lots of elements of my car could be described as unnecessary. Fact is, the car itself could be argued to be unnecessary ... there are other ways to get around. I am quite sure some of the gadgets many people consider to be essential, are in fact unnecessary ... or at least, non essential. But, that doesn't mean they're undesireable. To me, a car PC seems a lot more useful than 17" wheels or body kits, or debadging or pseudo-badging. If someone wants a car PC, is that any more strange? I still think it would be cool to have. There are things the Nav unit can't do that a PC can do, but the Nav unit won out.
Not a matter of necessary. There are lots of things you CAN do, and there are things you SHOULDN'T do.......... this is one. When I was still a working police officer, we had mobile data terminals. It was expressly forbidden, by policy, to run the MDT while driving. We all did it, but it took divided attention to a whole new level. You CANNOT run the MDT and look at the road at the same time. It makes talking on a phone look safe. This is simply a bad idea.

As I've stated in other threads, I would NEVER so much as answer a ringing cell phone while in motion. I don't own one and have no desire for one. My company occasionally requires me to carry one in the company vehicle. I have laid the law down that if they need to call me, they will have to call twice ... the first call to let me know I need to come to a stop and receive the second call. What makes you think I would be operating a PC while in motion?

In a word, yes.
17" wheels, body kits, debadging, or pseudo-badging don't usually distract the driver's attention from what *should* be the business at hand, which is paying attention to one's driving.
Of course, one may well argue "but I'm only using the computer functions when I'm parked," and I'll counterpoint with "did you connect the parking brake interlock wire on your DVD head unit to the parking brake's wire, or do you have a bypass switch?" And then one would answer, "ummmmmmmm..." and I'll say "yeah, I thought so."
Don't get me wrong; it's *your* car, you do what you want. But I'm not ever going to think it's a good idea.
