Does anyone know how to remove my AVIC-D3 so I can do the bypass on it to watch DVD's in motion, but of course I won't reealllyyy watch anything while driving ;). Not sure how to remove it at all... any help is appreciated
you can access this easier by accessing the parking brake switch and disconnecting the wire going to your Pioneer unit. On mine (not avic d3) that wire is yellow. However, on automatic mdls it could be connected to your gear indicator. Once out of park it switches off the screen or it switches over to input 2 where you might have a rear view camera connected or a GPS. If this doesnt' help let me do some checking and try to find out what color your wire is. Just let me know.
you need a special tool to remove the unit from your dash. once done here is how to hack the video over-ride.

Thanks for the replies, so I need a special tool to remove the unit its self out of my dash? Any idea what it is/where to buy it? I'm assuming the Smart Center wouldn't do it for me haha
Don't want to sound like a grown-up here, but isn't this a REALLY STUPID idea?
One more completely distracted driver on the road, talking on the cell, texting, typing on the laptop AND watching dvds. Come on people...

Have to agree; just got back from over 2,500 miles in the smart and by far the most dangerous situations I encountered were drivers on their cell phones - real doofusses and a danger to everyone, including themselves. While it's possible to do a hack to watch DVDs when driving, it's not the smartest move in the world IMHO.

You just need a torx driver and remove the top dash vent cover and then pull out the button array and remove the torx screw there. You will then be able to remove the four torx screws holding in your AVIC. Not really hard to do at all.

It's not for me, it's for my son who would be in the passenger seat. Probably more entertaining for him to watch a movie during a long trip then just stare out the window, If it was ME watching a movie while driving, that'd be pretty stupid to do. It's also quite annoying for me to have to pull over and apply the parking break just to enter an address for the Navi, when I have a passenger in the car with me as well.

Everything on the smart is held by torx screws at least that is what I can see. I've also read that to get at your stero you should remove the button array to get at the torx screw holding in the plastic fasia around the stereo unit this is accessable by pulling on either side of the button array (heated seats, emergency, door locks, etc.) the panel will pop out. In the middle of the panel is a torx screw holding the plastic surround take that off and the rest should be easy.
as for disarming the video feature I know there is a small box that can be purchased to disarm this feature one of my local stero installers installs them.
