Does it really work when you move the mute wire and ground the parking brake wire? If so...why when you slightly engage the parking brake does the unit know that you are moving and disable the features? Is this also connected to speed sensors or GPS movement? Just wondering if I am wasting my time to re-config the wires. Please let me know if it is really worth the effort.
You have to ground the mute cable as well, and yes, it works perfectly. When you slightly disengage the parking brake I assume it has a weaker ground, so it knows you're moving. thats my guess.
There is also a youtube video that will show you how to do it if you are still anxious. I added a smart radio to my car yesterday and it was a five minute endeavor. Oh, and I'm not mechanical genius...The only problem was a lack of torx screws...
It's not for me, it's for my son who would be in the passenger seat. Probably more entertaining for him to watch a movie during a long trip then just stare out the window, If it was ME watching a movie while driving, that'd be pretty stupid to do. It's also quite annoying for me to have to pull over and apply the parking break just to enter an address for the Navi, when I have a passenger in the car with me as well.
Great thanks a lot.
Not to question your being a responsible driver, but if you get into a serious accident and a lawsuit entails, the opposing counsel may require an inspection of your car and discover the bypassed DVD. Irrespective of whether you actually were watching, opposing counsel would raise the question of driver distraction by a DVD movie while in transit (remember that the standard of proof in a civil case in CA is only by a preponderance of the evidence, i.e., more likely than not) -- something to think about.

I am not worried about that. The DVD feature is very useless if you are only able to view it in park, how often do you do that? Everyone I know who has a system like this has it bypassed. I only run DVD's on trips during the day. Wow this is an old thread

So, does the mere suggestion that you could have been watching the DVD have bearing on the case? What if they find a non-bluetooth ready phone in the car, is there speculation that you were using it? If you were shopping and bought a bottle of wine, is there speculation you were drinking it? Conclusive evidence would have to be presented, indicating the DVD was in operation and, in fact; that a DVD was in the drive and operating at the time of the accident. That the unit was capable of being viewed while in motion does not mean it was. (Just my layman's $.02)

I didn't say it was a winning argument. Nor did I say the argument should stop him from bypassing the parking brake lockout. I merely said it was something to think about (i.e., I was trying to hint that if you get into an accident, take out whatever DVD is in the player). Sheesh, is that clearer?
All, he asked was a simple how to question and he gets chimed at with driving suggestions and arm chair lawyering. Why cant people just answer the question? After all he is not suggesting that you do it, he is not dictating that you do it, he is not attempting to legislate that you do?
