I know nothing about speakers... Most bang for my Buck?

Hey guys I have a really nice Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD head unit and want to upgrade my door speakers. Smart Maddness recommend some JL's. With out and Maddness bashing are those good speakers? Can I get something comparable closer to the $100 $150 dollar range. I want it to sound good, a little louder, and be a good quality with the top down driving on the freeway. Whats features are worth giving up and what aren't. These are some features on the JL and it all means nothing to me....
    • Peak: 200 watts per pair / 100 watts each
    • RMS: 120 watts per pair / 60 watts each
  • Injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofer
  • Butyl rubber surround ( why does it matter what it's wrapped in)
  • 3/4" Silk dome tweeter
  • Symmetrical roll spider (???????)
  • 1" Voice coil with Kapton former
  • Ferrite magnet structure on woofer ( what's ferrite)
  • Neodymium magnet structure on tweeter ( why isn't this ferrite)
It's all very confusing and I am not planning on running an amp... any help on this? Thanks

Many of us have been happy with the Polks DB651 to replace the door speakers. (I went with the 6 1/2 inch and love them.) They're available on eBay for well under $100

Speakers

Listening is the only way to pick speakers. Go to some local stores and try out
Polk DB651
Alpine SPS600
Infinity 6022SI

All can be driven with a head unit and sound way better than the OEM smart speakers.

Are you going to install them?
I just installed infinity component speakers( tweeters are separt from the 6 1/2 mids comes with electronic crossovers). More work to install (but better sound) ,they do sell them with the tweeters in the speakers also like the polk's. try Amazon.com for a price look. bought my 6020cs for $66.95 (list $199.99)free shiping and the boss600 for $109.99.
I like Baby Benz's also.
I'm sure you will paint the grills black on the polks if you buy them

You can also mount the Polks behind the factory grills and not use the ones they come with - depends on which look you prefer.

Kinda makes me feel a little crazy for spending $400 on a pair of component speakers for my Smart..... but hey.... they sound excellent, have quite a bit of bass by themselves (and would probably sound better and have even more bass if i had them connected to a small 2-channel amp), and didn't really feel like skimping when there's only two doors with speakers. Do i love the speakers? Yes.... except for having to pay them off yet..... along with the kenwood nav system i installed.

I have the same AVH-P4100DVD head unit paired up with Polk Audio db675 "euro-spec" door speakers (a slightly larger version of the db651s), along with the OEM sub and dash tweeters (because I'm too lazy to unhook them).

I think you'll be quite pleased with either of the Polk Audio offerings. I know I am.

(EDIT: Oh, and believe me; with that head unit driving those speakers, you won't have *any* trouble whatsoever listening to music with the top down on the Interstate.)

If you want the best car audio equipment and have deep pockets then look no further than the Mcintosh line of car audio. This company has been around a very long time and makes killer home systems also. Check it out anyway for the hell of it.
