I was selling stereo's in the 60's when McIntosh tube ampliers were the top dog of stereo equipment (not that they a bad today just a little more competition). Back then a Mac factory rep would hold a clinic at the store. You would bring your Mac amp in and he would test the tubes and if any were out of spec he would replace all of them with a match set for free.

That was in the days that have long since passed.

Well... McIntosh seems pretty good.... but right now i'm using Hertz (a.k.a. Elettromedia) speakers in my doors

HERTZ by Elettromedia - Special Car Stereo

Mine are in their Hi-Energy line.... the HSK-165 system speakers. freakin LOVE them.

DB651 or do you need the DB651s? According to Crutchfield the DB651 won't fit but the "S" for slim does.

Let me change my request a little... I was not planning on disconnecting my factor tweeters so I'm assuming I should get a speaker that does not have a tweeter attached also or it will have to much high end right? does that change peoples recommendation?

How easy do you want to make the install of the speakers? Are you going to install them?
Components=more work to install,coaxial speakers=pulg-n-play.
You can always taylor the sound by the deck EQ.
I do now reconmend that boss600.Hell If you just do that you will be pleased

I have the db651S' in the doors,db351's in the rear pillars and the underdash sub w/ amp under the passenger seat with a Kenwood 503 headunit.More than enough sound for me.I still have the factory tweeters hooked up to bring the sound field up off the floor.You can keep your tweeters hooked up because the low pass filter is attached to them and they do help with the sound.

Some people say that the vintage mac tube amps sound better than any modern equipment available today!

I saw last month some decks from japan with tubes and analog meter gauges in them. Totally old school.

Not mine... You can always EQ the high end down a tad-bit if it's too bright for you. The AVH-P4100DVD has a true parametric EQ section in it, which works quite well.

FWIW, I kept my dash tweeters hooked up when I put my db675s in. They help bring the sonic image up off the floor.

They'll both fit, but the 651 needs to be front-mounted, with the hole in the door card widened out. My db675 speakers are a shade bigger than the 651, and they fit front-mounted just fine.

Y'might need to do that with the 651s speakers, too. I don't know; never seen 'em in person.
