DB651s I just purchased and got the door off, looks like for them to bolt in, I'd have to drill new holes and that lines up approx where the factory outside cover is melted to... PLease advise?

So Joe do you want to back mount them and keep the stock grills? If not view the DIY stick thread to show how to front mount speakers. I think you would like the polk grills better just paint them black, if you want them less noticable.

I'd really like to back mount them, I don't want it to look like I've got upgraded speakers in the car.

I mounted mine behind the factory grill using the holes for mounting the factory speakers. Just put the "ring" on the speakers (snugly but not really as tight as you could make it) and use the clips. Screw the clips one-at-a-time into the factory mount hole. The clip flattens and you can rotate the clip and push the opposite end it in between the speaker proper and the mounting ring. On one side I added a dab of epoxy for extra security but it isn't really needed. Mine have held up fine for over a year and at least 12,000 miles

The ring? I didn't get any rings and the holes are outside of the speaker housing so, unless this "ring" is an adapter, I don't see how this is going to work.

The polkaudio booklet, page 8, refers to it as a "spacer/adapter bracket." Sorry, I couldn't remember it's proper name.

I just installed a pair of Kicker 07DS650's in my smart, if your looking for a speaker to give you some "kick" without spending a lot of money, I'd recommend these. Got mine off Amazon.com $39.99 + free shipping.

I know, you serious audiophiles will probably flame me over these, but I am completely happy with them and my stock radio 9. They remain clear up to the point my ears hurt....that's good enough for me. Turn it up to about 15, and I can feel the sound waves shaking my pant legs. What more do you want?

By the way, I mounted mine behind the stock grills, for the stealth look as well.

WhtieNBlack08 did you have a bracket/special adapter that you used?

I didn't get one in my box, and I tried a special adapter I have for a set of Alpine and no go.

I looked in the destructions and it shows thats only for the DB651 (not the S) so... I'm going to have to pick up a set of DB651's so I get the adapter plate.

Sorry, I didn't know the adapter only came with the standard size ones. Any chance you can exchange yours?
