Yes you can

There is plenty of room under the passenger side of the dash for a small amp that could take the IPOD input and power the existing speakers. If using the stock speakers, find the smallest, cheapest amp possible. Pawn shops are a great source of cheap automotive amps. I have done this in several hot rods where I had no use for a radio.

China is the world's largest flea market (the particular unit below has a Buy-It-Now price of $9.99 plus S&H of $9.99 from China):

http://cgi.ebay.com/LPV8-Hi-Fi-Audio-Stereo-Amplifier-Amp-Mp3-Mp4-Ipod-Car_W0QQitemZ310105244378QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item310105244378&_trksid=p3286.c 0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|24 0%3A1309|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

As you can see, you don't even need the smart's aux jack since this unit already has one. You simply would plug in the speaker wires to the amp, plug the ipod into the mp3 jack on the amp (or better yet, find a dock-RCA adapter), then wire in the amp into the 12-volt lighter using the included power cable and an appropriate lighter adapter.

A simple ebay search for "ipod car amplifier" will yield lots of results.

No need for me to try this since I have a Radio 10, but I don't see why the OP's question can't be addressed this way.

Once you have the amp you get the joy of electrical and mechanical attachments.

I feel dumb. We use one of those at our church to patch into the sound board our ipod for pre-service music. Good advice!
