Technically you need it....

Absolutely you need the VSS this digital input to the Nav. i.e pioneer z1,2,3 have a learning mode with out vss this navigation never give you acurate distance sometimes they bring you to other places....

I had installed F900bt in my smart again the same thing this unit have a feature tells you how fast you are running and will sound tell you that you are speeding....I dont installed my VSS wire co'z I don't know to put in.. While driving Samantha will say you are about in speeding but, looking at the spedometer im am just running 55 m.

Now tel me guy if you don't need it.... I paid 1200 for the unit and I would like every detail of my unit...

as far as i know the smarts are on some sort of can bus. out of over 100 avic-900bt i have had no one ***** bc the vss is not hooked up. take it out of hybrid mode. last time i had a problem with that was with the pioneer d3's. vss is NOT NEEDED with the new avic's. older units yes it is. with the new tech you dont. btw have fun finding something to hook up to the can bus. u should be good with the gyro and the gps ant in the 900. they use the surftitan. its made by benz. the new cars u dont mess with the can bus. if u do god help u

Yessssssss, it works goood..... I installed CAN-VSS unit to my Avic 900bt works like a champ.... the acuracy of distance calculate exact location also the voice Samantha pointed the right place i.e it is in your left or right....... While driving in the tunnel speed, distance is perfect....

This is what I installed,
CAN-VSS made in Canada sold by Megatronix it is self diagnose....

darn 95 bucks plus CA tax.....By the way the reason that I installed this unit is... Evilution had this link that back of the speedo pin no 11 is a VSS to be sure that it but when I connect to the avic 900 there is an effect on resetting the tool wrench for oil service.. That I found out this is a GALA speed sensor that German radio uses for speed volume this digital output are not match with avic it affect the speedo defferent ckt...
Pin #11 only apply in Germany if we had german radio you can connect this..Hope helps others that there is a defference between GALA and VSS

Here's a link to several of these; what model did you use for your radio? Thanks!

yes they do, but it seems their vss generator is not for 451's. Perhaps they will have an upgrade available soon. Why can't we just trace the output wires coming from the speed generator probably located on the transmission to see which is the vss signal wire.
