New components - poor bass!!!

I just installed a new set of Kenwood Excelon KFC-X1720P and the bass is worse than the factory Radio 9 speakers. I am running them off the Alpine headunit 45X4 but have a pdx-4.100 on the way. Do you think the lack of power is why there is no bass? I used the brown striped speaker wires as the negative and the solid color as the pos so I don't think they are out of phase.

I know that a pair of component speakers in my doors worked beautiful from the get-go, but I also applied sound/vibration dampening to the inside of the door skin.

If your base isn't good at lower listening levels, it isn't a power issue. If you crank to painful levels and don't like the base response, it's quite possible a power thing.

no bass

I have no idea what all the fancy no's mean. But the first thing you must resolve is the phasing issue. Then you go to the next problem. Play a CD that you are familiar with and use one cut as a criteria. As you switch back and forth you can determine the best reproduction.
I also switched out speakers and added sound proofing material. Obviously that reduced bass so I added a litle BASS 600 behind the seat and that made all the difference.

When I originally replaced my speakers with Polk DB675's I noticed an increase in bass - not a decrease. I'm not sure what you're problem might be, but your polarity sounds correct. I replaced the Polk's with MB Quart Premium's and added a 4-channel MTX Audio amp and an Infinity 8" sub under the dash and that made a HUGE difference in sound quality and base. The only thing I could think of would be to wait and see when your amp comes and see if the extra power fixes it.

turn the balance control to one side while listening to music if the bass level increases you have the speakers out-of-phase....

Anything is better than the Radio 9 and 10. I am not sure what is wrong but I would take it to an audio store and ask them to look at it. I am not feeling enough bass so I ordered the underdash woofer to go along with my MBs.

Thanks Macaw, the speakers were out of phase. I'm not sure how this happened since both speakers are hooked up the same, the sound is much better.
